Horses are to be included in this years gathering.

I would like to run a skills comp and we have a suitable dedicated space.
Could any interested horse people make them selves known.

Also feel free to contribute suggestions regarding activities.

Are you making a activity suggestion Alex?

For those Special people who like the idea of facing a horse charge or combatant on horse back this could be arranged. At our own risk. I know you are out there.

You just have to tell me, meet us some where and we can play.
The horse sports area could accommodate all sorts of silly experiments and I have a ton of horse that scratches on barb wire for pleasure

He is a Norman type so not to bright and good at following rules ie.me!

We have had pony club people on the field before. They were allowed to hit us but we couldn't hit back, just in case that the animal was hurt.

And really we can't do anything to the horse that you might do on a real battlefield (Ground a spear into a horse's chest, stick a spear between the legs, etc) and being run over, kicked, stomped or bitten might be deemed excessive contact and be written up in the incident report.
:)

Although the best living history moment was when some bugger on a pony told us to follow him and to move up the hill to fight the enemy. We had the view of a horse's arse all the way up.

One day I was riding this guy in the paddock and he stopped turning one way. He would just stiffen his neck and run the other direction with his head on my other knee.

I had been whacking a friend with one of those larp two hander swords so I started using this to direct Fenris. (They make a big "wallop" but for a horse with a hide like a rhinoceros not much more impact )
So here I am careening around the paddock walloping this horse on the neck and arse till he heard me and turned. It took a few swings and its a big big arse.

I don't know what the locals thought but they sure did see some nifty sword work.
I'm surprised the police didn't turn up.
Its OK though, my horse insurance isnt through ALHF :D

I'd like to see what it would be like to face both a charge and fighting someone on horseback.

My safety brain doesn't like the notion of facing a proper charge. (though I would be interested and happy to donate an old shield to see what a full charge does)

I'd be interested in either doing some form of foot to horse combat, maybe with the Larp type weapons (for safety) if you have a selection to go around. I'd also be really interested in seeing how the charge up and throw (padded) javelins against a shield wall would feel.

So maybe one of the things to do would be get a shield wall of interested members, various horsemen capable of throwing padded javelins from horseback charge up and throw them against the shield wall. Then after getting the feel of that having a horseman charge a Mannequin/butt type thing at full speed while nearby enough to see and feel how much a horsemans charge could do while still being far enough away to minimise risk.

If we do that I reserve the right to wear my later period full facehelm (silver shrine of charlemaigne style helmet) & safety glasses underneath.

Since the half ton+, 4 legged, transport that Til rides doesn't have a human brain inside (no matter how well it's trained, etc), I won't feel comfortable doing this.

Anyway, Fenris probably won't 'die' properly.
: )

what about foot being targets for a horse archer???( or several)

If you've ever wondered what it would be like to be peppered with arrows from the back of a horse , I'm sure we could organise it to happen .

I've been a target for combat archery at Armidale before, so it wouldn't be a thing I'd want to do again since I can't attack the archers.
: )

Thanks for the offer though!
